When Planet of the Apes was first released in 1968, they had no idea that it would spawn a genuine franchise that would span well into the next century. There would be five films in the original series, released between 1968 and 1973, then in 2001 there would be a remake of the film series that would stretch to five films as of 2024 – and perhaps more; only time, and box office receipts, will tell.
